Set your city or coordinates

The Prayer screen needs a location before it can show your timetable. You can request your current location or type a city. Adding the country to a city name helps distinguish places with the same name. Manual latitude and longitude are also available in prayer settings.

  1. Open the Prayer screen and choose Use my location, or open prayer settings to type your city.
  2. If city lookup fails, try the city and country, or enter the correct latitude and longitude.
  3. Confirm the displayed city and today's prayer times.
  4. Update the location when you travel; Sutrah uses the coordinates saved in your settings.

Choose a calculation method and Asr option

Sutrah includes twelve calculation methods: ISNA, Muslim World League, Egyptian, Karachi, Umm al-Qura, Dubai, Moonsighting Committee, Kuwait, Qatar, Singapore, Tehran and Diyanet. Different methods use different calculation parameters, so two apps can display different times for the same city.

Prayer settings also offer a standard or Hanafi Asr calculation. Select the method and Asr convention followed by your local community. A method's regional name is a guide to its parameters, rather than a guarantee that it matches every mosque in that region.

Compare the timetable before adjusting it

Check Sutrah against the timetable you intend to follow. First confirm location, phone date and time, calculation method and Asr option. If a small consistent difference remains, prayer settings provide a minute adjustment for each displayed time.

Distinguish the beginning of a prayer window from a mosque's congregation time. A mosque may schedule jama'ah later than the calculated beginning. Sutrah's prayer schedule does not automatically import a mosque's congregation timetable. For guidance on which timetable to follow, ask your local mosque.

Connect times to adhan reminders and app holds

Prayer settings let you enable adhan notifications and set a reminder before the prayer. Allow Sutrah notifications and sounds in iPhone Settings. Ordinary notifications can be affected by Focus, silent settings and notification preferences; hearing every reminder is not guaranteed.

The same saved prayer settings determine the prayer-time app holds selected in Focus. Changing your location, calculation method or a prayer's minute adjustment can change when those holds start. Fajr wake settings are a separate feature: the Fajr guide explains the difference between iOS 26 system alarms and notification-based alerts on earlier iOS versions.

Keep the displayed schedule useful day to day

The timetable shows sunrise alongside the five prayers. Sunrise is a reference time and is excluded from the next-salah selection and prayer-time app holds. After the day's last prayer, the next-prayer calculation moves to the following Fajr.

Once coordinates are saved, the prayer calculation runs on the phone. Finding a typed city uses Apple's geocoding service and may need connectivity. Open Sutrah regularly to refresh scheduled reminders, and revisit the settings after travel or a phone time-zone change. If the timetable cannot be calculated for your location, report the location and selected method to support.

Questions, answered

Why are Sutrah's prayer times different from another app?

Location coordinates, calculation method, Asr convention and minute adjustments can differ between apps. Compare these settings before changing individual times, and check whether your reference is a prayer-start timetable or congregation schedule.

Can I use Sutrah without granting location permission?

Yes. You can type a city or enter latitude and longitude in prayer settings. City lookup uses Apple's services, while prayer times are calculated on the phone from the saved coordinates.

Does Sutrah support Hanafi Asr?

Yes. Prayer settings include a Hanafi Asr option alongside the standard option. Select the convention used by the timetable you follow.

Will Sutrah automatically follow my location when I travel?

Sutrah uses the location saved in prayer settings. After travelling, open the app and use your current location or set the new city, then check the timetable.

Why did I not hear an adhan notification?

Check that adhan reminders are enabled in Sutrah and that iPhone Settings allows Sutrah notifications and sounds. Focus and other notification settings can silence ordinary alerts. Open Sutrah to refresh scheduled reminders.
